As we kick off the 2017-2018 school year, we have many positions that need to be filled. Many hands make light work!

For the PTA executive board, we need a legislative advocacy representative (LAR).  PTA is a child advocacy association, its legislative mission is to speak on behalf of all children and youth at the local, state, and federal levels. The LAR attends a monthly meeting with CUCPTSA at the district office, speaks at our PTA meetings, and advocates for our students. The LAR may also want to attend school board meetings, can attend the Sacramento Safari Conference in February (PTA has set aside a budget line item to help pay for the conference), and can attend parent advisory meetings. If this is something that sounds interesting to you, please send me an email at for more information. I will give you the information I have and put you in contact with the previous LAR.

We also need a hospitality committee. The hospitality committee will work together to...

The 13th Annual Spring Carnival is less than one week away! Carnival Wristbands can still be purchased at or you can pay with cash/check by filling out a waiver at school. Your PTA has been working hard behind the scenes the last few months getting ready for PTA's biggest fundraiser of the year, the spring carnival! The carnival this year will be on Friday, May 12, 2017 from 3:30 to 7:30. We have many fun things planned, a 45 foot Ferris Wheel, a 3 lane fiberglass slide, the popular obstacle course, surf simulator, carnival games, cake walk, silent auction, teacher feature, and MORE!

We are still looking for sponsors! This is the last chance for a sponsor to get their banner on our fence, participate in the carnival by having a booth, and support VdM PTA for the 2016-2017 school year. We are also accepting in-kind donations to be auctioned off in our silent auction. Please email us at for more information on the s...

Vista del Mar PTA had a busy month in October! Thank you to all the parents that visited the Scholastic Book Fair and thank you to the parents that volunteered your time. Special thanks to Sanam Favrow and Angie McLaughlin for being the chairpersons of book fair.  Reflections is finished for another year, thank you to all the students that participated and thank you to Leslie Votava and Jennifer Gloede for chairing that. I was so inspired by the art, I’m already thinking about next year (the theme is “Within Reach”). Our book drive for our sister school was a huge success, thank you Leah Wellikson for coordinating that. Fremont Elementary is still collecting winter clothes for science camp. As our own fifth graders come back from science camp, if their clothes are too small, consider dropping them off at Vista del Mar. Thank you also, to Renee Foley for our Jack Randall fundraiser. Although the deadline has passed, Jack Randall will continue to allow us to sign up....

September 28, 2016

I recently read a blog post about how September is the worst month ever. At the end of summer, we all celebrated the school year starting and celebrated our children being with another adult for 7.25 hours a day, five days a week (THANK YOU TEACHERS). Then the reality of September hits: setting the alarm and reminding them gently (or yelling, if you ask my daughter what it’s called) to “GET UP!”; multiple sports practices, games, and tournaments; multiple extra curricular activities-Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, tutoring, community service, church groups, and the list goes on; making school lunches EVERY SINGLE DAY; homework and the tears that go with it; all the forms and payments (yearbook, spirit wear, PTA membership, Mako Foundation, Near and Dear Fundraiser, and so much more); back to school events (back to school night, picture day, and the PTA meeting). Yet, here we are, September is almost over and we made it. Congratulations!

Now that it is officially fall, we are...
