Vista del Mar PTA had a busy month in October! Thank you to all the parents that visited the Scholastic Book Fair and thank you to the parents that volunteered your time. Special thanks to Sanam Favrow and Angie McLaughlin for being the chairpersons of book fair. Reflections is finished for another year, thank you to all the students that participated and thank you to Leslie Votava and Jennifer Gloede for chairing that. I was so inspired by the art, I’m already thinking about next year (the theme is “Within Reach”). Our book drive for our sister school was a huge success, thank you Leah Wellikson for coordinating that. Fremont Elementary is still collecting winter clothes for science camp. As our own fifth graders come back from science camp, if their clothes are too small, consider dropping them off at Vista del Mar. Thank you also, to Renee Foley for our Jack Randall fundraiser. Although the deadline has passed, Jack Randall will continue to allow us to sign up. Renee Foley has secured a San Clemente location as well, Bella Colina! Also, thanks to Katie Kohn for heading up our Ralph’s Community Giving. We currently have 202 families signed up. Let’s get to 375 families by Thanksgiving break! Visit vdmpta.org for flyer information. We finished our first box tops contest, Nancy Nicolosi, our chair will announce the grade level winners at Friday Flag. Thank you everyone that turned in box tops and thank you Nancy for counting them. We turned in $800 worth of box tops!
It’s not too late to order the yearbook! Find the flyer under the “support us” tab on the vdmpta.org website. The cover contest is up and running also! Entries are due by November 18th. Flyers are available in the office.
We have started our carnival planning for May 12, 2017. We are excited about the possibilities ahead! If you would like to be a part of our carnival planning committee, please email Erin Naylor at firstname.lastname@example.org. We are looking for people to help decorate, staff the carnival, solicit donations, solicit sponsors, and much more. If interested, please consider attending our first meeting on Wednesday, November 2nd at 8:30 AM at Panera.
Giving Night is coming up on December 9th from 4:30-7:00 PM. Santa will be making an appearance from 4:30-6:00 PM and we have wonderful opportunities for your family to participate together to make a difference in the community. Look for more information in the coming weeks.
Dr. Olsen’s Buy Back Program We would like to thank Dr. Olsen Orthodontics for sponsoring the VdM PTA and helping us fundraise with his buy back program. Take your Halloween candy to his San Clemente office on Friday between 8-5 at 903 Calle Amancer, Suite 160 and he will buy your candy! The candy will be donated to US Marines overseas, you, your child (or the candy switch witch) will get $2/pound AND Vista del Mar PTA will get $2/pound (up to $10 per person). A win-win-win all around!
