Bike Permit Information
Bike permit application and safety quiz for the 2023-2024 school year will be available soon!
All VdM 6th - 8th grade students must submit and pass the bike permit application and quiz by the end of the day on August 31st. All bikes must be permitted on September 1st.

Do I need a new bike permit every year?
Yes. You will be issued a new bike permit each year once you have submitted your application and passed the quiz.

What do I need to complete in order to get my bike permit?
You will first be directed to the bike permit application. Here you will enter your information as well as your bike serial number. You will then need to watch the presentation after which you will be prompted to take the quiz. You must get 100% on the quiz in order to qualify for a permit.

Will I get my permit if I get less than 100% on the quiz?
No, you must get 100% on the quiz. You are able to take the quiz multiple times.

I did not get 100% on the quiz. How do I re-take it?
When you submit the quiz, it will allow you to click on VIEW SCORE. If you did not get 100%, then you can "EDIT RESPONSE" and go back and change your answers. Please note that several may have more than 1 correct answer.

I submitted the application and passed the quiz. How do I get my permit?
The office will reach out to you directly to issue you your permit.

I ride two different bikes/scooters to school. Do I need a bike permit for each bike/scooter?
Yes, you will need a permit for both. The first permit is free and additional permits are $5 cash.

I ride a manual bike/scooter to school. Do I need a permit?
Yes. Bike safety rules apply to both electric and manual bikes/scooters.

My bike is in the shop so I will be borrowing my dad’s bike. Does my dad’s bike need a permit?
You have two options in this case. First, you can purchase a second permit for your dad’s bike for $5 cash. Second, you can come to the office and ask for a temporary permit.

I have a new bike. How do I get a permit for this bike?
Come to the office and get a new permit. You must have taken and passed the Bike Safety Application and Quiz. If you have already been issued a permit at no charge, this permit will cost $5. NOTE: Please bring your new bike/scooter serial number as this will need to be updated in your file.

Can I move my permit to a different bike?
No, the permits cannot be removed intact. You will need to get a new permit for $5.

I have 3 (or more) bikes/scooters that I ride to school. Do I need a permit for each bike?
You will need to speak with office administration. Permitting decisions for multiple bikes/scooters will be made on a case by case basis.

My child received a “Final Notice” today. What does that mean?
Your child will need to submit the bike permit application and take the quiz. Once this is done, your child will be issued a permit. Your child is not permitted to bring their bike to campus until this is complete.

My parents just bought me a Class 3 electric bike. Can I ride it to school?
All Class 3 electric bicycles will need to be adjusted to a Class 2 electric bicycle speed and a parent will need to submit an attestation verifying this has been done. We cannot allow our students to ride a Class 3 electric bicycle to campus since none of our students are 16 yet. Individuals must be 16 to ride Class 3 electric bicycles.
